Where did the word エグい come from?

Recently my son （oldest son）often says 「エグい」「エグッ」「ガチで」「ガチかよ」something like that .

Where did the word エグい come from?
The word for エグい , comes from the word えぐみ which means bitterness , harsh taste and so on .

But nowadays エグい means ·····🤔 awesome ? cool ? great ? tasty ? awful ? Incredible ? Amazing ? Oh, no ? Wow ? disappointing ? interesting?terrible ? Hot ? Cold ? smart ?
I think we might use エグい in any situation 🤨

For example

今日の暑さエグっ！
It's too hot today
その髪型エグいね！
Your new hairstyle looks great !

暑い（あつい）adjective
暑さ（あつさ）noun

エグい is a 《I adjective 》.
So we can make sentences like this

Noun は エグい , Noun + エグい and エグい + Noun


彼（かれ）の頭の良さエグっ！
彼はガチでエグい！
He is so smart !


エグい is similar to ヤバい/すごい？

I know that people often say エグい
I've been hearing it on TV and Youtube a lot recently.
But , actually I've never used エグい and I've never teach my students 😅
